In other news, "Discord co-founder and CEO Jason Citron is stepping down; Blizzard Activision's Former CEO/CSO Humam Sakhnini Is Discord's New CEO, Company Announces Plans to Go Public." Alternatives suggested in the post are Revolt, IRC, and Element. (Dreamwidth is naturally an option, but doesn't exactly scan as well for something so heavily texting/chat-based as Discord.)

Dreamwidth does have threaded comments in communities and blogs, along with private messages. It's not a close match, but it might appeal to some folks for the privacy controls.

Keep an eye on it, I guess. I'm not on Discord myself.
