summerofthe69 opens for this year on Sunday, woo! I'm hoping to get my spoons in order to promote it properly soon, but we'll see what the weekend brings 😅

That sounds exciting.

You have lots of places that you could promote it. Pretty much any erotic/smut community would be relevant.

*ponder* I'd say break it up. This weekend -- and you can promote early today or tomorrow -- focus on the biggest venues like fandomcalendar, fandom_on_dw, and dw_community_promot. Since it's themed, and overlaps nicely with the current fest, you can promote in allbingo. Then a few days to a week later, start looking for others like the dedicated smutcomms. Also check each theme for communities that match it but not everything, like crossposting the "monster" one in horror comms.

Posting in a community keeps it active so they don't die out. Feel free to use my Follow Friday gather posts to search for relevant ones.

Oh yeah, definitely big general communities for this weekend; I hadn't thought about more granular communities as things go by, but it's worth pondering! I was also planning to drop a link in copperbadge's Radio Free Monday, since that boosts to Tumblr as well. Thank you for the suggestions!

I'll have to contemplate whether I want to get scheduled posts in order for my other communities to take some of the stress off as well; I could probably do scheduled posts for the themes on Sot69, too, but roundups I need to do at least a little manually, even though I can work off of a template for them.

Advantages:
-- More communities mean a wider range of people will see the posts.
-- Repeating posts over time increases the chance of participation, which is how advertising works.

Templates save a ton of time, most of my recurring posts are templates. For 69, consider a fest-based and a theme-based template you can customize as needed, like by adding a line about the community's theme.

Phew! Okay, posted to all of the general above, and posting templates saved for next year. (Probably the thing that'll help most is that I saved the tags I used by community...) I may do some digging around for other communities to post to as appropriate, but definitely no more advert posting tonight! My advert-writing brain is tuckered out 😴

Oh, for roundups I'm talking about fill roundups when themes close at Sot69. Like, "Theme X is now closed! [Here are the things that people created for it!/There were no creations for this theme, but Amnesty is always an option!] Remember, Theme Z opened this week, and Theme Y is open until next week!" So the tracking down of the various links I need to include (Themes X, Y, and Z) take some time, even if I can pre-load a lot of it, and then there's also tracking down and properly crediting anything that gets posted for a theme. It's not difficult work, it's just kind of A Lot for my poor, poor ADHD-riddled brain. I'll have to see if I can organize things better this year.

On the plus side, I don't necessarily have to write a whole lot of new theme essays! I may have to tweak some of the old ones a bit for references to other themes/theme order, but other than that, I think there's only five new themes? That's fewer than half I need to write whole new essays for this year. I mean, I love writing those mini essays, but they are also Work 😜 Oof, the fest opens with two new mini-essays right out of the gate...!

Also, save the date you posted those. Then next year, just go back to the old post, copy-paste into a new window, and edit if necessary. I do that to reuse posts that I only make once every 3-4 months.

If possible, save entries as they get posted with their relevant information. It's how I keep track of stuff to recommend for snowflake_challenge. Also, you can just copy-paste the 69 list of entries as your Snowflake recs come January.

Oh yeah, I literally just copy-pasted the entry code into a comment on a sticky private post, listed with the community name (user name style) and relevant community tags. Copy-pasting should be a cinch, if a bit tedious 😂 I'll have to go back through and collect previous entries at some point, but I've got some time before I need to get to that 😜
