Here's the plan: every Friday, let's recommend some people and/or communities to follow on Dreamwidth. That's it. No complicated rules, no "pass this on to 7.328 friends or your cat will die". Just introduce us to some new things to read.

There are a lot of older communities that would be awesome, but some don't even have that. Part of the problem may be that people just don't think about creating or participating in a community for some things -- or they do it in their blog rather than a community.

That seems to be by far the biggest field of activity on Dreamwidth at present. I'm not sure if it always was, though. It's an area of high enthusiasm, and it lends itself very well to the venue and the types of activities that seem to work for maintaining a community.
I do wish we had more variety, though. Fandom may be popular, but not everyone is into it, which can make it difficult for Dreamwidth to attract new users.
